Design Analysis

The headset itself, considered as an isolated object, is confidently resolved: a continuous curved shield, a woven adjustable band, and a compact rear volume that avoids unnecessary bulk. As an industrial design exercise in materials and proportion, it is accomplished. But the assessment here concerns the design's relationship to the person wearing it and to those around them, and on that count the product's core feature works against clarity rather than for it. The mirrored, opaque front lens conceals the wearer's eyes entirely from anyone facing them, replacing genuine visual presence with a device-mediated simulation. Whatever technical achievement this represents, as observable design it substitutes concealment for the ordinary visual openness a face affords, and that tradeoff is significant enough to weigh against certification.

Behind the Score
Why this project achieved the
Vand Score 61/ 100

The headset demonstrates that formal elegance and interpersonal legibility are not the same achievement — a beautifully resolved shell can still create a significant gap in how the wearer is perceived by the people they're with.

The mirrored lens is instructive precisely because it is the design's most technically ambitious element and its most human-respect-compromising one at the same time; solving concealment with simulation is a different thing than not concealing at all.

The tethered cable, small as it is, undercuts the otherwise wireless-feeling silhouette and is a reminder that even a single visible constraint can shift an object's perceived character from integrated to provisional.

Final Decision
Not Certified

The jury finds real material and formal accomplishment in this design, and does not dispute the sophistication of the engineering it houses. But VAND Certification evaluates the design as experienced by the people around it, not only by the wearer, and on that measure the mirrored lens represents a significant, unresolved cost. A device that removes the wearer's eyes from view removes something people rely on more than they consciously register. The score falls just below the certification threshold, reflecting a design that is close, but not yet reconciled with the person on the other side of the glass.

A face is the original interface; hiding it behind glass, however elegantly, is still hiding it.
