Visual Identity
The VAND Perspective
This work was selected for its exceptional mastery of Meaningful Silence. It successfully balances human-centered functionality with a visual language that reduces noise and enhances clarity.
In an era of digital saturation, this project stands as a quiet rebellion; it does not compete for attention but commands it through precision and restraint. By stripping away the superfluous, the design invites a deeper engagement, proving that intentional absence can be the most profound presence.
The Creative Intent
A 170-year-old brewery in Akitsu, Hiroshima Prefecture, launched a new sake brand built on uniqueness. Sake brewing relies on key numbers like fermentation days and alcohol percentage. This brand takes an innovative approach—ensuring every key brewing number is a prime number. A prime number is a natural number divisible only by one and itself, making it mathematically unique. Inspired by this, the brewery developed a truly one-of-a-kind brand. This philosophy extends to its packaging. In Japan, when the season’s first sake is ready, breweries hang a Sugidama, a sphere made of cedar branches, at their storefronts. We reimagined this symbol using prime numbers from 1 to 365 to represent the brewing cycle. Key brewing numbers were highlighted with metallic detailing, reflecting the brewery’s commitment to craftsmanship.
