The VAND Perspective
This work was selected for its exceptional mastery of Meaningful Silence. It successfully balances human-centered functionality with a visual language that reduces noise and enhances clarity.
In an era of digital saturation, this project stands as a quiet rebellion; it does not compete for attention but commands it through precision and restraint. By stripping away the superfluous, the design invites a deeper engagement, proving that intentional absence can be the most profound presence.
The Creative Intent
Central Park Skiers designs and builds backpacks for ski touring and backcountry skiing. The founder and designer, Joonas Luotonen, is a skier, designer, and skilled maker who crafts every backpack by hand in Helsinki, Finland. His approach reconnects skiers with their equipment by bringing design, testing, and manufacturing back to the north – closer to the ski community and to the environments where skiing actually takes place. Adapt Alpine 25 is his flagship ski-touring pack. Built for human-powered skiing, it combines a clean, quiet visual language with highly considered functionality: a balanced carry system for touring essentials, skis, ice tools, and avalanche safety equipment. Materials such as Ultra 400X and Finnish Army surplus high-tenacity nylon, paired with aluminum hardware, extend the product’s life far beyond a seasonal cycle. The Adapt Alpine 25 is a product that encourages exploration, connection with nature, and shared experiences within the ski community. At the same time, it challenges consumerism, unsustainable supply chains, and faceless mass production – offering a responsible, human-centered alternative rooted in love for the craft and skiing.
