The Grande Panda Électrique opens with real conviction: a pixel-grid grille and lamp signature that reads as one clear idea, applied with more consistency than most vehicles at this price attempt. But conviction at the front is not the same as discipline throughout, and the rest of the car does not sustain what the face promises. The lower body carries cladding, skid-plate trim, tow-hook cutouts, and roof-rail hardware that are not derived from the car's own graphic logic but imported wholesale from segment convention — the visual vocabulary of "SUV toughness" applied rather than considered. The rear graphic, while confident in isolation, uses a different structural logic than the front, so the car does not read as one authored statement but as a strong idea at one end and a checklist at the other. The design demonstrates, briefly and convincingly, what a single well-formed graphic idea can do: the pixel grille alone carries more identity than most competitors achieve with their entire front fascia. That is a real design achievement, and it should not be dismissed by the outcome of this assessment.
But the design also demonstrates, perhaps more instructively, that a strong idea in one location does not certify a whole object. A grille is not a design language until it governs the surfaces around it — and here it does not. The lesson is one of authorship versus assembly: the front was clearly designed; much of the rest of the car was specified.
The jury's decision is not a rejection of ambition — the front of this car shows real design intelligence, and that intelligence deserves acknowledgment even in a report that withholds certification.
